Can someone give me directions to McAfee's Knob in VA? I would be coming from I-81 South.?
I have searched the web and nobody posts a map or gives directions - I know it's by Catawba, but where?
A-Best: Take I-81 Northbound to Virginia Exit 140 - VA Route 311.
Take VA Route 311 toward Catawba (also known as Catawba Valley Drive).
There is a large parking area off the side of VA Route 311 for Appalachian Trail Hikers (you will see signs--it is well marked).
Park your vehicle there and walk across Route 311 to the stone stairwell where the AT begins a steep ascent up the mountain right away.
You really cannot miss it. Have a nice hike.
