How to eliminate calls from a company called "cardholder services"?
I see this question was asked a few months ago. I'm hoping someone has since found an answer. Frequently, I receive calls from "Cardholder Services" even though I am on the Do Not Call registry. If I take option 8 to have my number removed I am told it's an invalid option and disconnected, if I chose option 9 to speak to an operator and request my number be removed they hang up on me. *57 call tracing doesn't work. Are there any other options? Next time I'm going to take option 9 and then harrass the call center employee. That's about the only thing I know to do at this point. At least I can take my frustrations out, the call center employee has GOT to know they're working for a bogus company......
The company represents themselves as "cardholder services". They do not provide any information when requested. If I try to find out who they are they hang up on me so I cannot report them. They do not come up on caller ID so I cannot identify them in order to find a written address or have further correspondence.
A-Best: It depends on the reason they are calling you.
A company that has an exisiting relationship with you does not have to check the Do Not Call Registry first. That is only for the so called "Cold Calls" where they have no existing business relationship. The name "CardHolder Services" may be just how it comes up on caller ID, but the actual company name may be something else. .
You need to find the company that is calling. Generally if you actually talk to a person they will say this is representing . If it is a company you have had business with, you need to inform them that you do not want to be contacted anymore. Then follow up in writting that you do not want to be called anymore. They must stop or face violations similar to the violations of the Do Not Call Registry. If it is a company you do not have an existing relationship with then you can report a violation of the Do Not Call Registry as long as your number is listed.
If this is a collection call, such as if you are behind in a payment. They also do not have to check the Do Not Call list. If they contact you, you need to do the same thing in writting to the company. However, if they continue to call that actually becomes a violation under the FCRA.
Based on your Add Info: Go to the donotcall registry list it has good information on how to file complaints and if it is a violation. The link is below
Also, I am pretty sure it is from one of your Credit Card Companies. "Cardholder Services" is really another name for their sales department that tries to sell you all of these extra services such as insurance. If you wanted to test this theory, call or go on line and change your phone number, one account at a time. Eventually I bet that they will amazingly stop. Once they stop you pretty much know who was doing it.
A: Hello,
This should take care of it. Make sure you mail it RRR (return reciept requested / Green Card / $5.12)
This falls in the FTC guidelines. THey will be required under law to stop. IF they continue to call you can sue them up to $1000.00 per violation.

A: Let them talk to a dial tone. Also, there are ways to block the numbers that come up as 'unknown' on caller id. I'd look into that.
