ok this is 3 questions wat can i do to get more sound out me 85 irocz an did they come with dual exhaust?
An what can I do simply to get more HP out of it
A-Best: No, they did not come with true dual exhaust. 2 pipe run from the engine into 1 catalytic converter and then back into 2 mufflers. You can buy free flowing cats, 2 of them, and run true duals from there. Look for Magnaflow or Flowmaster mufflers. If i were you, run the 2 pipes into the cats, then install an "X" pipe and then into the 2 mufflers. the X pipe balances your exhaust for more of a true tone and mid range power.
good luck.....
PS..remember, it is illegal to remove the catalytic converters from the car.
A: I do believe they came with True Dual Exhaust, id run Magnaflow exhaust if it was mine. You can however go to camaroforums.com and they can probably tell you the best exhaust setup for your car.
A: No third gen camaro or firebird (1982-92) ever came with true dual exhaust, and its pretty hard to fit true duals under these cars
You car stock has 2 exhaust manifolds, A Y pipe that hooked up to both manifolds, and exited out into 1 pipe on pass side of car, then a cat converter, pipe, transves mounted (sideways) muffler in very rear of car, with 2 tailpipes exiting out of muffler, 1 on each side
The 1LE performance package cars starting in 1990 for a J65 perforamce exhaust system, and N10 dual cat converters but thats as close to true duals as they ever got, and thats still just a single exhaust system.
Justin.. Adding 93 octane fuel aint going to gain ANY power. Octane is just resistence to burn/light. Higher octane fuel is harder to light and burn to keep high compression engines from lighting the fuel from just the compression and causing detonation
As to the question of how to get more power, well what engine setup do you have? The '85 iroc came with 305 v8, 4bbl, 305 HO with 4bbl and the 305 tune port injection.
Best starting points are headers, aftermarket Y pipe, aftermarket cat back exhaust, better intake and air filter
Then you could stick to bolt ons like under drive pulleys or what not, or dig into the engine and swap in alittle hotter cam. Something like a 212/222* @.050", 110 LSA cam
A: camaros didnt come with 'true duals" both sides of the engine exhaust pipes come together and go under the passenger seat, then out the back where they split into 2 after the muffler.
to simply get a few more hp out of your iroc, use premium gas.
A: no 3rd gen came with what we know as dual exhaust... there is a y pipe then single exhause going thru a catalytic convertor into a muffler that has dual outs..... usually the y pipe all the way to the muffler are 3 inch and the muffler is a 3 inch in and 2 2 1/2 out... the tunnel for the exhause is not big enough for dual exhaust unless its real small... then you would have to figure a way of mounting 2 mufflers in the back
A: It's not illegal to run without catalytic converters if you either don't have emissions or your car is old enough to not run emissions tests.
What I would do is check your local laws, most places if your car is over 25 years old you don't have to run emissions tests anymore (california is weird about these things though, don't know all those rules). Save up a few hundred bucks and buy a dual exhaust kit specifically for your car, check out summit racing and jegs. H-pipe will give you a deeper tone or x-pipe will give you a higher tone. I just run two separate pipes not connected cuz I'm cheap and its only for the tone of the exhaust
You might save $$ by just taking it to a local auto welding shop/exhaust shop and telling them what you want. Anything is better than stock really. Just don't use flowmasters or glasspacks if you can help it
A: you can boost performance by using chevron super unleaded, don't listen to chevcrack 151 he makes himself feel better by overbabble (this is where someone has too much crap mixed up in his head) half is correct, half is doublespeak, personally add a flowmaster 40 series, and toss in a can of octane boost, fill it up with chevron super unleaded and go look for some nice deserted Mountain roads, the flowmaster actually starts to sound lean and mean the hotter it gets, so start rocking and rolling in the canyons and as you keep your foot to the floor and everything starts warming up that flowmaster sounds down right Wicked, even on a mostly stock motor, Its all relative, we cant all afford to buy a 10,000 dollar engine, or be like chevycrack a legend in his own mind, but we can have fun with a flowmaster, a v8 some premium gas and rocking through the mountains getting the flowmaster hot!!!
